The Life & Times of Dr Tommaso Fiaschi

The biography of Tommaso "Thomas" Fiaschi is the story of a young man who leaves Italy in the 1800's and sets out on an incredible life of adventure that takes him to a successful medical vocation in Australia, a decorated military career, an award-winning winemaker, and an extraordinary family man. Looking for clues as to what the book might really be about, a theme that seems to run through Tommaso Fiaschi's life is that he did things he was passionate about and committed to, without fear of what that might mean for him, what the downside consequences could be. If ever there was a man who didn't let his head overrule his heart, it was Tommaso Fiaschi.

Commissioned by the Fiaschi family, this work-in-progress is an historical biography that roams across continents and centuries, its reach across time encompassing four wars. The narrative arc of this life story spreads from the belle époque to the Great Depression, crossing oceans and spanning empires. At the heart of everything stands one man, two wives, seven children, several vocations, over 130 descendants, and two names: born simply Tommaso Enrico Fiaschi, he was to become the anglicised, Major (later Brigadier General) Doctor Thomas Henry Fiaschi DSO.
